God's Call To Ministry (part 2)

Speaker: Brandon Phillips Series: Ephesians - The Church - A Mystery Revealed Category: The Church, The Gospel, Christian Living Scripture: Ephesians 3:7–13

Sermon Outline

In this passage, Paul gives the church at Ephesus seven characteristics of God’s call to ministry. God calls us to ministry:

  1. In His Prerogative (3:7a)
  2. By His Preference (3:7a)
  3. According to His Power (3:7b)
  4. Regardless of our Position (3:8a)
  5. For His Plan (3:9)
  6. In accordance with His Purposes (3:10-11)
  7. To reveal our Perseverance (3:12-13)

Quotes:

"That God should condescend 'to dwell with men on earth' - that He should assume the form of a weak and fallen creature - that He should submit to all the pains and sorrows which mortality is heir to - might well excite the wonder and amazement of the universe. Truly it is a thing which never could have entered into the heart of men or angels, had not the Most High Himself revealed it by His Spirit." ~ James Haldane

"Not until we have become humble and teachable, standing in awe of God's holiness and sovereignty, acknowledging our own littleness, distrusting our own thoughts, and willing to have our minds turned upside down, can divine wisdom become ours." ~ J.I. Packer
