The Scandal of Grace

March 10, 2019 Speaker: Jonathan Mitchell

Topic: The Grace of God Passage: Luke 15,

This story is filled with shame, but in the midst of shame upon shame we come face to face with the profound love of God for sinners:

1. The younger son's shameful rebellion

2. The father's shameful reception

3. The elder son's shameful rejection

"The Pharisees were men who believed in the holiness of God, and in His law - in supernatural reality, and in predestination and election. 'Grace' was a big idea to them. But the Pharisees believed in conditional grace (it was, at the end of the day, because of something in them that God was gracious to them.) their God was a conditional God."
